Sylvia Rosenbaum
Jewish - Librarian, Great Neck
Sylvia Rosenbaum spent six decades in Great Neck, where she transformed the local library into a sanctuary of learning and community. Born to Yiddish-speaking immigrants, she grew up surrounded by books and stories of resilience. As head librarian, she curated Holocaust education exhibits, hosted poetry nights, and knew every child’s favorite author by heart. Her home was filled with antique bookends, embroidered challah covers, and the scent of cinnamon kugel. Even in retirement, she led a memoir-writing group for seniors, believing every life deserved to be archived.
